This week definitely solidified any thought of me going to college for dance. Even if I don't become a famous dancer, on of my students may and I am ready for the challenge of being a teacher. I want to help kids find themselves and figure out the life that they want. I believe that I will be good at being a teacher because of the example that every teacher in my life has given me. Especially Jessica. Her thoughtfulness about dance and the way she teaches makes me realize that dance is one of the most important things to pass down. I am going to persevere through, into this career for myself because it is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. The biggest thing that will help me do this is a lot of support from the people that I love and members of my school. I am so grateful for the time Jessica gave me and the things I learned from the experience. Thank you Durango Dance!
Today was my last day. For my last day, I began with the dailies, then I went upstairs and did the long task of putting costumes that had already arrived into student bags. Oh my lord that took forever. It probably took around 15 minutes to find the bags for a whole class, then there were the repeats, which took about an hour once I was done putting everyone's costumes into their bags.
Today I came into the studio at 1:30 and I was soaking from walking in the rain. So I took a few minutes to change my clothes and dry off. Then I began on the daily tasks, such as cleaning the mirrors, bathrooms, floors, and taking out the trash and recycling. The bathrooms were so dusty, it was a nightmare cleaning the floor boards even though they were the bathrooms that rarely got used. Once I finished the floor boards, I went to the office to finish sending statements to parents. That took a while because of the large amount of people that I was sending emails to. By the time that was over, it was time for me to go to the Ballrooms classes that I help with. Then it was off to Hip Hop for the final hour.
Today I went to the dance studio at 9 and did the dailies and finished cleaning the heaters in the first studio. Jessica and I talked afterwards, and she taught me how to send statements to parents from the program that the studio uses. Kristen came in about an hour before Blast started and then we worked on the stage order. When class started we all went into the studio and did our thing. I am getting a lot better at the class since I know the dances pretty well. My knees started hurting after a workout that had a lot of kicking so I had to sit down and give them a break. When class ended, Jessica and I went into the office where she taught me about foot support and walking, since she studied that in multiple classes and intensives. Jessica wanted me to understand how not to hurt myself. Then she showed me videos of the classes that she took so that I could understand what she was trying to accomplish with her own classes.
Today was really slow but I did two big projects, one that I did not finish and I am expecting to finish tomorrow. This first was cleaning the heaters and foot boards in the front studio. I did not get a chance to finish the heaters because a class started about half way through what I was doing. I also took some time while I arrived at the studio to do dailies, and look for a scrubby that I believe the cleaners accidentally took. The other project was upstairs with the bags the we received yesterday. My task was to write every students name on the upper left hand corner of the bags. There were about 200 names that I had to write, and I felt very tired about half way through. It was tedious because I printed out the class enrollment, instead of just the students. This was a problem because a lot of students take multiple classes. After I finished that project I went downstairs to join my fellow dancers for contemporary and jazz. Then my day at the studio was done. See ya!
Today was the first day of my last week. It was eye opening thinking that two weeks had gone by so fast, and this was my last chance to make the biggest impact I can at Durango Dance. Although I didn't do as much as I usually do while I am there, I spent a lot of time thinking about the rest week and how I want it to look. Today my tasks where to put pictures from old recitals up in the front studio, and that is how Jessica found out I was scared of heights. I was on the ladder and I told her I was scarred of falling while hammering the nails in, while on a ladder. So she told me to just mark where the pictures should go so that she could nail the hangers in for me. I did a lot of tedious math to figure out there the pictures should be, which wasn't a problem for me, just time consuming. Today, I also started scrubbing the heaters and around door frames to get finger prints off. People have really dirty hands, and I didn't notice until I started attempting to clean them off. So much oil and dirt, it was really disgusting. That was the bulk of my day, besides carrying the bags for costumes up the stairs...I don't have a lot of arm strength. Bye:)
This week I was by myself a lot. I really enjoy what I am doing. Dancing with people of all ages, getting closer to my teachers, and helping as much as I can is such an amazing thing to go through. I only wish that I was doing more of my school work and video editing stuff on my free time. That is one thing that I am going to work on doing differently next week. Overall this week was very engaging and the big projects that I did were really fun. I really like working with kids and parents and all of this little tasks that go into running a studio. I really believe that I could do this for the rest of my life.
Today when I got to the studio Jessica was already there, so we decided to have our weekly talk.We spoke about what went well and the schedule for next week. After our talk, we decided it was time to do our interview. That took about 30 minutes to an hour. After the interview I went to the Blast class. I am really proud that I am finally getting the dances down. After the class, I went up stairs to work on the storage room, by cleaning and organizing it. When it was 3:30 I went to the back studio and help Michaela with both of her hip hop classes, which was a great conclusion to a great week.
Today I got to work at 1:30. No one was there so I worked on the dailies. Once those were done my mentor sent me a list of things I needed to do (via text). This included recital prep, Sweeping the stair, organizing photos, and organizing the prop box. When Jessica got there at 3 she asked if I could help with her pre-ballet class since her other helper was gone. That was probably the most fun I had all week. The little girls were so nice and sweet. Two of them were very rowdy. But, when it was time to dance, they got focused and danced. After that class I went to the two ballroom classes that I help with, then I journeyed to my hip hop class and ended my day at the studio, stunting.
Today when I arrived at Durango Dance I was given the task of cleaning the upstairs office. I organized all of the supplies, movies, Cd's, and paperwork. It was extremely dusty up there so I had a hard time not sneezing. I decided that I would miss the blast class since there was so much more that I needed to finish upstairs. I got everything that was trash and made a pile of those things, then I made a recycle pile, and a thrift shop pile. Once I was done upstairs, I worked a little more on recital papers and when 3 came around, it was time for me to clock out
