Spanish 1
La Poesia de la comida
Summary
For this project students looked up an authentic Spanish food. They had to research the cultural history behind the food they were making, look up a recipe of that food, and recreate it. To go along with the food they made, students either had to write an ode about their whole plate, or just an ingredient in their food. To learn about writing an ode, they read odes by Pablo Neruda and watched a movie based on part of Don Pablo's life.
Reflection
During this project I learned that American culture does not appreciate the art of making food as much as Latin cultures. We are a fast society which makes the food we create quick meals. In South America, Mexico, and Spain the recipes they make can take up to five hours. They appreciate this because they are able to enjoy the food more and have food ready for the guests that come to their homes. the exhibition was really fun, because people enjoyed eating the food I gave them, however none of them asked about my ode which was a little disappointing. The most enjoyable part of this project for me was searching for the recipe that would be fun to make and eat. It was fascinating looking at all of the different kinds of foods that Latin cultures make. I would have looked more into the history behind my food because I feel like their was only a few facts that I knew about it and learning more about the food would have made the writing of my ode more interesting. I'm really proud of the food that I made because everyone seemed to like it.
