Chemistry
Energy and Place Project
Project Reflection
In this project I learned that scientists can have a lot of trial and error when they create their lab. They have to have a lot of background knowledge about what they are researching before they can just create a lab. It's important to know about reactions and properties of the materials. For example, I was working with radioactive decay and shielding, and it was good to know in the beginning that gamma radiation can penetrate anything we were using for shielding. From this lab I learned that it's hard to control radiation, and we need to use what we know about it for ourselves, to better the world, instead of being afraid of it.
In my project I learned that nuclear chemistry is probably one of the best forms of energy, despite its critics. I was able to learn about the pros and cons of each type of energy, and determine for myself which one I thought was beneficial. It is so cheap, has very little negative impacts on the environment, and we are well protected from meltdowns.
In my infograph I wanted to show people that there were lies about nuclear energy that they were exposed to, and that most of them probably strongly believed. If this world needs to be more efficient, we need to stop combating this technology and start funding it so that we make sure big catastrophes don't happen, then people will be less scared.

Essential Questions
a. How does energy production and consumption impact place?
Energy production can make the value of a place go down, but bring an economic boost to that place. When a company moves to a town, they hurt the beauty of that place with the technology and machinery and also brings people to fill in the numerous jobs they have to offer.
b. How does your sense of place, environmental ethic and understanding of our energy needs influence your perception and decisions relating to energy production and consumption?
My sense of place and environmental ethic makes me want to protect and fight for a better solution in energy production. The process is the least dangerous, the waste is the problem. People's solution for the waste is the ocean, my place. I want to keep the oceans pristine.

3d Printer Pitch
Hello beautiful body bags! My name is Sonya, and I am trying to get the word out. What is that word? 3d…PRINTING! You love the organs in your body, so why give them away when we can just print the very things that keep us alive? No more long waiting lines to get a new lung, it’ll be as easy as going to the bakery for a cookie. It’ll be an in and out surgery! Help me get the word out by funding my book, “One Liver Please. Order Up!” All proceeds will go towards research and resources for 3d printed organs. And it’s so easy to contribute! Just give my name, Sonya, to the table when you exit and they’ll take your Animas Bucks.
