Street Law Mini Project
This project was about learning what citizens rights are on the street and in school. We went over traffic violations, home inspections, and simply being stopped on the street. In most of these situations we learned what to say to police, and when a police officer is being unlawful. We also learned about what permits a search and seizure, which in most cases can be based on the police officer's motivation and integrity. The last thing, as well as what I chose to do my mini-project on, was student rights. As soon as there is a student on campus the authorities take the parental role in that student's life. This means that they only need to be suspicious of the student participating in criminal activities.
The reason why I chose to focus on student rights is because a lot of students don't know that their rights, specifically the Fourth Amendment, has been altered for school security. I didn't know a lot of what we were taught myself and I thought it was important that students were told, instead of needing to figure it out the wrong way. |
